Extranet Products and Services

Extranet services are a boon to many industries because they allow intranet access from remote locations without allowing universal access. That means one can control who gets to access network, which allows keeping unwanted visitors out. 

Extranet products and services are available in four categories: 
1) Extranet Development Tools: These tools to design extranet servers, a client-base, security, e-commerce applications, and electronic catalogs.
 
2) Extranet Hosting and Network Connectivity: It provides secure ISP connections to internet backbones and host extranet services for corporations. 
 
3) Extranet Services: These services provide extranet design expertise with proprietary tools or turnkey services for building and operating extranet- based services for corporate clients.
 
4) Virtual Private Networks: It provides components specifically design for connecting remote operators and creating IP WANS for corporations. VPN is a secure network on the internet using the tunnelling schemes. The major objective of a VPN is to use the internet as an inexpensive WAN backbone.

Extranet services can help user by following ways:

Extranet Services Providers 
There are four types of extranet service providers: 
1) Consultants and Contractor: Consultants are those who develop extranet networks for clients. These can use the extranet to facilitate the design of new systems or provide outsourcing services.
 
2) Developers: Developers are using generally available development tools or proprietary products.

3) Internet Service Provider (ISPS): It is the agency, which enables users to access Internet services. The ISP is equipped with all tools and technology to provide you the Internet services. The computers at home or at offices have to be connected to the ISP first for accessing the Internet. The connection to ISP can be made over a telephone line, leased line or wireless/radio link connections.
 
4) System Integration Firms: They provide turnkey solutions, including design, development, ISP connectivity and extranet hosting operations as a single source.
